Parental Involvement is the Key
Parental involvement is key for success. Parents, caregivers and teachers are encouraged to participate in sessions and ask questions. You are involved every step of the way, and are given activities to practice with your child to help review the new skills your child has learned during therapy sessions. Furthermore, it helps your child learn how to generalize the new skills into everyday situations. After all, encouragement and reinforcement are the keys to success.
There are many types evaluations we perform covering all aspects of speech, language, oral placement (oral motor) and feeding development. The type chosen, is based on the individual needs of your child.
Evaluations for Apraxia, Oral Placement (Oral motor) Disorders, Sensory-Motor Disorders, and Feeding / Swallowing Disorders, usually include an in-depth examination of the facial and oral structures, and their functioning. Also examined is the sensory system within the mouth, as well as the motor planning necessary for speech and feeding.
Speech or Language evaluations involve the use of standardized testing, which provide information about how your child is performing compared to same-age peers. In addition to standardized testing, informal testing is also performed (such as observing the child during play and conversation).
All evaluations include a comprehensive written report detailing the results of the evaluation, and our recommendations for your child, and is always provided at no additional cost.
Individual Therapy Sessions
Therapy sessions are geared specifically to your child’s needs, and strive to guide your child to achieve success. The sessions are 45 minutes in length, and are typically provided once or twice a week. Goals of the therapy session are based on the results of the comprehensive evaluations that have been performed. All therapy sessions include recommendations for activities and exercises to practice learned skills.
